Welcome to the Trunk Dragon Competition! This is an art contest to see who can draw the best and most creative trunk dragon. What is a trunk dragon, you ask? A trunk dragon is much like a normal dragon, but it has a trunk (like an elephant) that it breathes fire from. Though they cannot breath as much fire as their cousins, the trunk dragons can breathe a much more concentrated stream of fire that allows them to precisely aim the fire exactly where it hurts (Like in the dragon slayer's butt). Note: We're happy to see your dragons in big suitcases (trunks), but no, they don't fit the theme.

The Rules

1. NO STEALING ART!
You must have made the image yourself. That means that no matter how much you like an image that you find on the internet, you may not submit it. The image must be yours to enter in this contest and your work to have made it. Remember that Elftown has hundreds of artists and we will know if you steal an image and that makes us very, very angry. <img:img/mood/10305_1131577280.gif>

2. QUALITY-ISSUES
If we are going to take the time to judge your image work, we would like you to take the time to make something that is worth it. We know not everyone is a master artist, but we can tell the difference between something that you worked on and something you made on MS paint in a minute. Be creative and put forth some real effort! <img:img/mood/10305_1128465319.gif>

Also, we would ask that you submit new drawings. If you by chance drew a trunk dragon last year, then we would like you to make a new picture of a trunk dragon instead of giving us the old one. We want to see your artistic skills now, not last year.

3. EACH MEMBER MAY SUBMIT TWO (2) ENTRIES.
We will allow you to draw two images if you want, but remember that the more images you make the less likely you are to win; the votes will be spread between multiple pictures instead of just one.

4. ALL IMAGES MUST BE UPLOADED TO ELFTOWN!
To upload your image full-size you can use the feature 'Upload a folder of images' that is shown on your house.
This feature allows you to upload one, multiple images or zip-files in their original size to a wikipage.
<URL:upload_zip.html>
Once you click this link you can follow the instructions. See also uploading images.

5. SUBJECT MATTER:
Since the winners will be featured on wikis, images that depict graphic violence, pornography or other disturbing actions will not be accepted. Only images that fit the theme of trunk dragons will be allowed.

All mediums are be accepted, but no kids dressed as dragons or annoying GIF-animations! <img:img/mood/10305_1126202510.gif>

6. PERMISSION
You don't lose the right to your art, but by submitting it in these competitions, you allow Elftown to use the art in its wikis.

All art submitted must abide by the above rules. If a piece of art does not follow the rules, it will be removed. No exceptions!

<img:stuff/2237_wiki_help_9y7vcgcflr5.jpg>

Judging

Images will not just be judged for quality, but also for uniqueness, background and general other details. We want to see some interesting and creative trunk dragons! Colour in pictures is not needed, but it does make the images prettier to look at sometimes. <img:img/mood/10305_1128465354.gif>

Ten images will be picked out by the Council and the Assembly among all those presented and a Mainstreet poll will tell the two (2) winners.
Participants will receive an art donor badge, and winners will receive a coloured version of the same (or a green/coloured Masters of Building badge if they are committed art donors).

2007-03-20 [Hedda]: "If you by chance drew a trunk dragon last year"

Eh?!? Are you kidding me? <img:http://www.cathug.com/kittyemo_crazy.gif>

2007-03-20 [Stephen]: Well, it's not likely, but I've seen some people draw some interesting things. <img:stuff/zabuN-gif.gif>

2007-03-20 [Stephen]: Haha! I love the addition! <img:44166_1164145171.gif> LOL!

2007-03-20 [Stephen]: I don't know about a deadline, either..

2007-03-20 [Linderel]: Give 'em a month, two tops.

2007-03-21 [Paul Doyle]: You might want to mention something about discouraging flying elephants, in case someone gets the brilliant idea of Photoshopping wings and trunk-fire on pachyderms?

2007-03-21 [Hedda]: No, we don't want to mention that.

2007-03-22 [Stephen]: A fire breathing, flying elephant... that would be interesting. :p

2007-03-27 [Sunrose]: Rule 4 should be changed, into what it is now on ET sci-fi logo contest :)

2007-03-27 [Stephen]: Done, thanks! :)

2007-03-27 [Sunrose]: Thanks :)

2007-03-31 [Daisy_Sandybanks]: Would this be an acceptable entry, or would it break rule # 2?
http://elftown.lysator.liu.se/stuff/C%3ADocuments%20and%20SettingsAnnaleeDesktopTrunkDragon.jpg

2007-03-31 [Sunrose]: If you think you can do better, then you should of course!
But I think it is admissible :)

2007-03-31 [Daisy_Sandybanks]: I could do a bit better, and I do have until May 12th ;)

2007-03-31 [Sunrose]: I'd love to see more work :D
Aye, the deadline still allows for quite a bit of time ^^

2007-03-31 [Paul Doyle]: I have a plan already, but between finishing my own unfinished stuff from 2005/2006, taxes, real-life stuff and the rest, I've got my fingers crossed.

2007-04-04 [Stephen]: Well, we hope to see an entry. :D

2007-04-04 [TwiztidYoshi03]: I love this competition... So creative...
Only if I could draw good, I would try this...
Maybe next time :D
But good luck to everyone doing this... ^___^

2007-04-08 [MisLuck]: Just out of curiosity; is it allowed to do two entries which are the same picture but with different methods? Eg. Drawing and a claywork?

2007-04-08 [Sunrose]: According to the rules all mediums but annoying gifs are allowed and you can submit two entries, so it seems it is allowed :)

2007-04-13 [Paul Doyle]: I had a blah night at work, and couldn't be bothered with working on half-finished pics. So I came with a preliminary sketch idea for this contest. Anyway, this idea has a twist: in addition to being expressly made for this contest, it's also a fan-art, of sorts, for the old, immortal Mystery Science Theatre 3000 show that I love. The characters of the show (Joel/Mike and the 'Bots, Crow and Tom Servo) will be silhouetted against the "movie screen", which will feature the silly shenanigans of Trunky the Dragon (also starring Pauly the Anthro-Dragon and a few other assorted dragonish types). In a takeoff of one of the best MST3K shows, "Pod People" (a 1980s Spanish ripoff of "E.T," retitled and dubbed in English) Joel and the 'Bots will be saying, "Trunky, you can do stupid things!" (A takeoff of "Trumpy, you can do stupid things!" which in turn is a takeoff of "Trumpy, you can do magic things!") You'll have to see the episode to fully know what I'm talking about.

Anyway . . . is a little bit of fan-referencing OK for the contest? Here's the (admittedly faint!) sketch-idea so far:
<img100*0:stuff/11046_TrunkySketchIdea_Really_Faint.jpg>

2007-04-13 [Paul Doyle]: Link, if this is more convenient. http://elftown.lysator.liu.se/stuff/11046_TrunkySketchIdea_Really_Faint.jpg

This is what the typical "MST3K" silhouetted movie screen looks like (and yes, that's Trumpy from "Pod People" xD)

http://www.all-encompassingly.com/archives/images/trumpy.jpg

2007-04-13 [Stephen]: Well, I think it's OK, it fits the theme and it doesn't break any rules, it's not copyright or anything.

2007-04-16 [Paul Doyle]: Quick question---who do I credit for the Trunk Dragon idea? Now that I am definitely entering the contest using the previously mentioned sketch idea, I want to give [Hedda] or whomever else the proper credit on my pic. http://elftown.lysator.liu.se/stuff/11046_TrunkyYouCanDoStupidThingsWIP-1.jpg

2007-04-16 [Sunrose]: It was [Hedda]'s idea, [Stephen] brought it to life :)

2007-04-16 [Stephen]: Yeah, [Hedda] thought it up and I made the contest. :)

2007-04-16 [Paul Doyle]: Thanks :)

2007-04-27 [Nadie importante]: hey can someone help me a moment with photoshop?!
the colour is on a grayscale slider and it doesnt let me change it into another slider and i cant paint my dragon trunk!:'( somebody pls tell me what to do

2007-04-27 [windowframe]: Have you tried opening a new canvas of the same size, and dragging the picture onto the new canvas?

2007-04-27 [Nadie importante]: uhm...im really knew in photoshop so i have on idea..but here you can see the problem:)
http://elftown.lysator.liu.se/stuff/stupidproblem.jpg

2007-04-27 [Nadie importante]: [windowframe] I did what you told me and now it works, however i wish i could just fix the problem because on the original one is where i have all the layers and stuff... but if itsnot possible thanks anyway! at least u gave me an alternative:)!

2007-04-28 [windowframe]: YOu should be able to drag all the layers across; but I think the problem is to do with how you scan the picture in - if you tell it to do a black & white scan, it'll set the canvas type to greyscale. Could be wrong, though. :3

2007-04-28 [Nadie importante]: yeah i was actually able to copy paste the layers, but i scanned normaly...but oh well, the entry is finished^^ with colour:P

2007-05-01 [SlightlySpiked]: ive never heard of a trunk dragon. can sum1 ummm......help me out?

2007-05-01 [windowframe]: There's a definition at the top of the page, " A trunk dragon is much like a normal dragon, but it has a trunk (like an elephant) that it breathes fire from. Though they cannot breath as much fire as their cousins, the trunk dragons can breathe a much more concentrated stream of fire that allows them to precisely aim the fire exactly where it hurts"

2007-05-01 [Yncke]: I don't think there's anything to help out about. It's a dragon with a trunk to breathe fire through, everything else about a trunk dragon is up to you and your imagination. ;)

2007-05-01 [SlightlySpiked]: i feel ignorant now. this is just tha first time ive heard of a trunk dragon.

2007-05-01 [Stephen]: Well, that's because Hedda and I (mainly Hedda) made it up. =p

2007-05-01 [SlightlySpiked]: oh, ok.lol

2007-05-11 [grayghost]: this might sound like a really stupid question but here it goes. What is a Trunk Dragon??

2007-05-11 [Linderel]: Quoted directly from the top of the page: "A trunk dragon is much like a normal dragon, but it has a trunk (like an elephant) that it breathes fire from."

2007-05-11 [Paul Doyle]: Quick question: is deadline 12 May 2007, at 0000 hrs ET time, or 12 May 2007 at 2359 hrs, ET time? If the case of #2, it'll be done. In the case of #1, ouch o__O

2007-05-11 [Sunrose]: It is always at the end of the day, I don't understand why you're asking this again.

2007-05-11 [Paul Doyle]: Thanks. I sincerely apologize.

2007-05-13 [Paul Doyle]: Reason being: in the past, some contests were closed based on the host's local time zone, and not ET's. One Herald-related contest closed at 12:01 AM, in the timezone of eastern Australia (which is UTC +10). Where I live, in northeast USA (UTC-4), is a very significant time zone difference! I couldn't finish my pic for that particular contest, because I was assuming the contest was going by ET time. So, you can see my question wasn't entirely unfounded . . . thankfully, using ET time has standardized everything. :)

2007-05-13 [Sunrose]: It was unfounded to me, because you asked me this question on an official Council-contest before. Mistakes are sometimes made, but official contests have for a long time been closed at 24:00 ET time.
Mind that the Council does not have a specific relation to the Herald, it does not control their contests.

2007-06-11 [Artsieladie]: First, I want to thank the Council for selecting my piece to be among those featured in the Mainstreet poll, as well, it being their choice. (Thank you [Sunrose] for adding this mention of on Mainstreet! :D) I want to thank all those that voted for my art piece in the poll. To be quite honest & b/c I'm a realistic artist, I have been seriously contemplating that my art doesn't really fit here on Elftown, b/c this is a community of fantasy & science fiction, not that I don't love it here for heaven knows I do. However, I must say, the citizens of & the Council of Elftown have forced me to rethink my thinking. This contest was going to be my last that I was going to enter. It's almost as though everyone knew what I was thinking. So, w/o dragging this comment out too much, I again say, a deep & heartfelt thank you to all! God Bless & *gigantic huggles* <img:44166_1164903263.gif><img:stuff/dand-gif.gif>
